Louisa May Alcott was a prolific American author, poet, and short story writer. She’s best known for Little Women, a semi-autobiographical novel that captured middle-class domestic life and realistic female characters. The book was an instant hit and has remained in print since its initial serialization in 1868–70. Alcott also wrote sequels, Good Wives, Little Men, and Jo’s Boys. Beyond writing, Alcott was a Civil War nurse, suffragist, and abolitionist.
